peyote

Peyote, híkuri, peyotl, mescalito, (Lophophora williamsii), is a small, slow-growing, spineless, psychedelic cactus. The effects primarily come from the phenethylamine alkaloid mescaline, as well as pellotine, and last around 12 hours. It is native to Mexico, and southwestern Texas, and sacred to the Huichol (or Wixáritari) indigenous people of Mexico, as well as the Native American Church.
